Pacific Academy and Queen Elizabeth Clinch Victories in 2024 Surrey Fire Fighters Goodwill Classic

In the latest edition of the Surrey Fire Fighters Goodwill Classic, Pacific Academy and Queen Elizabeth emerged victorious, marking their triumphs in the all-Surrey girls basketball tournament.

The tournament kicked off on January 8th, featuring 23 teams divided into two brackets: Axe and Ladder.

In a thrilling overtime clash on Saturday, January 13th, the Pacific Academy Breakers secured the Axe bracket title after a hard-fought battle against the Holy Cross Crusaders. Despite trailing for the majority of the game, Pacific Academy managed to level the score as the fourth-period buzzer rang. The Breakers ultimately secured a 53-49 victory in overtime, showcasing resilience and determination.

Simultaneously, the Queen Elizabeth Royals displayed their prowess by defeating the North Surrey Spartans on the same day. The Royals claimed the Ladder bracket final with a convincing 44-25 win, highlighting their dominance on the court.

The invitational tournament, proudly presented by Westland Insurance, has become an annual tradition in Surrey’s high schools every January. The event not only showcases the talent of young athletes but also serves as a platform for community involvement. Numerous firefighters generously volunteer their time to organize game schedules, secure sponsorships, and manage barbecue sales. All proceeds from these efforts go towards supporting the tournament and funding bursaries for participating players.

The 2024 Surrey Fire Fighters Goodwill Classic not only celebrated athleticism but also demonstrated the spirit of community engagement, with the combined efforts of firefighters and the dedication of talented teams contributing to the success of this beloved tournament.
